Hidden Tapes is Joshua Heinlein and Kyle Jahnke

Joshua (The Oh Hellos) and Kyle (Penny & Sparrow) became friends in 2014 when they both attended a wedding at a lake house in Austin, TX. They connected on similar interests in music and literature, including Hammock, Jonsi & Alex, and Rachel’s; as well as Steinbeck’s East of Eden and Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings. Over the years, the two would tour together and it was revealed that they both recorded sounds in important places they have been - a Brooklyn train, an old apartment, a tower in Amsterdam. In 2017, as a way to cope with the difficult years they both had, the two spent their time between tours writing music together in Joshua’s East Austin home. In December of that year, the duo returned to the same lake house they met at three years prior to record their first full-length album, Catharsis.
